As a member of the R&D Diagnostic Development team, the Scientist will conceive, plan and execute assay development and optimization projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology along with experience in next-generation sequencing within a clinical environment. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative R&D team working with cutting edge technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, research and present ideas for new assays as well as technical improvements
  • Plan and execute projects, with regular milestones and within establish timelines
  • Utilize a variety of molecular biology techniques including PCR, digital PCR, quantitative PCR and next-generation sequencing for the purposes of assay development and optimization
  • Design model systems for proof-of-concept and analytical validation studies
  • Translate protocols into robotic liquid handling workflows amenable to a high-throughput clinical laboratory environment
  • Analyze data using software such as Excel, JMP, or R
  • Present data clearly and concisely at departmental and cross-functional team meetings
  • Prepare project summaries, assay protocols and technical reports
  • Assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies
  • Participate and present findings at scientific conferences
  • Publish scientifically relevant data in peer reviewed journals
  • Participate in the development of patent applications, where applicable

Requirements

Dx Enterprise requirements

Requires Ph.D. with a minimum of 3 years relevant work in biotech/Pharma R&D (or equivalent), or Scientist with demonstr.ated capability to perform at a Senior Scientist responsibilities

Sequenom Requirements:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field plus a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and strong troubleshooting capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to plan & execute complex experiments
  • Direct hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing technologies and associated library preparation/target capture biochemistries
  • Assay development experience in an industrial or clinical setting is a plus
