MedTox is looking for an innovative and results oriented Maintenance Specialist to perform facilities, buildings, and grounds maintenance at our 3-building laboratory campus located in New Brighton, MN. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on various facilities systems including, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
  • Perform duties, maintenance and repair on demand on things like furniture systems, small equipment, lighting, plumbing fixtures, minor painting, furniture moves, clean-ups, and thermal comfort calls.
  • Assist with grounds keeping as needed -- shoveling snow, spreading salt, gutter cleaning, trimming branches, etc.
  • Assist Biomed department in repairing and testing general lab equipment when necessary, performing scheduled maintenance, equipment setups, and troubleshooting.

Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in HVAC, Facilities, or a Technical discipline and 2-3 years of relevant experience or, in lieu of a degree, 5-7 years of demonstrated progressively responsible experience in building and facilities maintenance.
  • Preferred training and certification with HVAC and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience with a Building Automation System.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Forklift operation experience is a plus.


  • Excellent troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time and perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and use operation and service manuals.
  • Ability to document all work performed in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge and experience using a variety of hand tools, troubleshooting tools, power tools, and outdoor power equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with your customers -- the other employees at this site -- about the status of their maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work on-call as needed, including afterhours and on weekends as the situation dictates without exception.

Work Environment

  • This job involves primarily working indoors in an office/laboratory/production environment but also will including working outdoors in all seasons in including day, night, heat, rain, snow, cold, and ice.
  • Some environments may be noisy and have odors, dust, and low light.
  • Will involve using ladders to work above suspended ceilings or working on the floor, underneath benches or other machinery in tight locations.
  • Will involve lifting up to 30 lbs. unassisted or over 30 lbs. assisted.
  • Ability to push and pull carts, carry tools up and down stairs, use and manipulate hand tools, bend and stoop, reach and lift.
